How To Find Top Dental Insurance Quotes Online

2010-06-21

Want top dental insurance quotes from reputable companies? Top online quotes may just be the answer you're looking for. Dental insurance plans are usually fairly inexpensive and quotes can vary greatly. Here are a few things to take into consideration.

Deductibles and maximum coverage is very important. Maximum coverage per year varies from $0 to $1,500 and deductibles range from zero to $100/person per year. Ironically, the more expensive plans usually have a higher deductible, but cover 100% of preventative cleaning.

Dental Indemnity Insurance. If you don't mind paying more to be able to choose your dentist, then this plan might be for you. This plan is usually a reimbursement plan. There is usually a "Fee Schedule" tab to see exactly how much the plan will pay for each diagnostic or dental procedure. The amount paid to the provider for adults is sometimes different than what will be paid for a child. The amount of coverage may be less than your provider charges. You will be liable for the rest. Although most indemnity plans will pay 100% for cleaning (preventative), you might be paying premiums for six months before you are covered for basic dental work or up to 18 months for major dental work such as root canals. Waiting periods vary from 2-3 days to 18 months. These plans are usually the most expensive because of the freedom to choose your dentist and the freedom to change dentists without notifying the plan holder.

PPO. This flat, co-pay plan includes a provider list. The dentists have negotiated a fee schedule with the plan holder to accept a predetermined amount for each procedure. As long as you stay in the provider network, you pay your co-pay. Changing dentists in this plan requires notification to the holder of the plan and could take up to 30 days to change dentists. PPO plans are usually less expensive.

Discount Dental Plans. This type of plan is not insurance. It is simply a discount plan. The dental plan refers patients to a dentist and in turn the dentist agrees to a reduced fee. There is no reimbursement to you or the dentist; just a discount. The "Discount" plan is the least expensive and you must use one of the dentists that have agreed to the reduced fees.

When searching online for dental insurance quotes, remember, dental insurance companies, like all companies seeking your business, do 'pay per click' with the search engines. The best is not always on top of the page. The top online quotes are all there. Find the one that is right for you and your family.
